Another low-key game but with great significance. A win will have put the team on top of the group table as USA hold England to 1-1 draw previous night. Even more significant because of the fact that both teams will have to face England and USA later in this stage. Most of the experts would have expected Algeria to get through but it was Slovenia who came out as winners.

Algeria started off well with Belhadj forcing Handanovic to make a gr8 save from a sensational free-kick. But then the game did not seem to get better after that. First half was goalless as expected with no team forcing the issue and settling for defensive play.

Second half started and things were not improving. Then Algerian forward Ghezzal got booked twice in quick succession. First time for pulling the shirt and next time for a deliberate Handball. It was obvious then he would be sent off and situation tilted towards Slovenia as they had a man advantage. Then the nightmare came along for Algeria. Koren took a shot on goal from outside the box and it looked to be going into Chaouchi's hands harmlessly and he may have dozed off somehow in between and it went through his hands into the net. This was all Slovenia needed and they held onto the lead they had for the rest 10 minutes. Again a rookie mistake by GK cost his team valuable points. Lets hope we saw it for the last time in this WC.
